Have you ever really thought about the purpose of clothing?

If you’re trying to decide what to wear, it helps if you know why you wear clothing in the first place. Of course, it’s customary, and legally required under most circumstances, but what does clothing really mean to people?

Before every what comes a why.

My observation of fashion and fashionable people has led me to conclude that the primary purpose of clothing to “the world” is decoration. The main thing is that is look good and make us look good.

My observation of the Bible leads me to believe that the true primary purpose of clothing is coverage. I have nothing against beautiful clothing but the context seems to strongly indicate that the “coats of skins” in Genesis 3:21 were not for decorative purposes.

If this is true,

it certainly explains a lot of things

about modesty, modest dress, and clothing choices in general.

Did you do last week’s Positive Homekeeping Weekly Challenge?

I picked a random verse out of a collection of Bible promises I received. The one I got gave me quite a chuckle!

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. ~ 1 Corinthians 10:13

I had no trouble figuring out what to do with this one!

Okay, here’s this week’s challenge:

Do something you’ve been putting off. If you’re like me (and like most people) you can think of many possibilities. You probably can’t do them all. I suggest praying for God’s help in selecting that special procrastinated task that He wants you to work on this week. Ideally, it should be something you wouldn’t do without this challenge–something that is important but not necessarily urgent.

Keep it simple and doable, and make sure you can complete it within the week so that you can engage in the act of completion so foreign to procrastinators.

Keep . . .

a smile on your face,

a song in your heart,

cheerful thoughts in your head,

and if at all possible, have fun!

This week’s challenge is to select a Bible verse (or short passage) and let it impact your homekeeping throughout the week. See how it affects your thinking, changes the way you do things, challenges you, or gives you ideas.

Don’t select your verse based on what you want to focus on this week. Prayerfully choose a verse that doesn’t have any predefined connections with your homekeeping (perhaps the next passage in your reading program or an old favorite). Then ask God to show you what He wants you to learn from the verse with respect to your homemaking or housekeeping. Read and reflect on the verse daily. Try to put it into practice every day.

Please share your verse and what you are doing to meet this week’s challenge (if it’s not too personal).
