Are you looking for Bible verses for homemakers? Well, there isn’t a lot in the Bible specifically about homemakers and homemaking. The Bible isn’t a homemaking manual!
It is a manual on life, faith, and love, and Christian homemaking is a part of all that.
The Bible does say a few things about home, homemakers, and homemaking, however, plus there’s a ton that we can apply to homemaking simply because homemaking is part of life, faith, and love. Here are some of my favorite Bible verses for homemakers.

#1 Proverbs 31:27
“She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.” ~ Proverbs 31:27
As homemakers, we need to “look well to the ways of our household!”
And really, it’s not always “the bread of idleness” that is the problem, is it? Sometimes it’s the “bread of busyness” or some other distraction.
#2 Proverbs 14:1
“Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.” ~ Proverbs 14:1
Build up. Don’t tear down. Homemakers make homes. They don’t sabotage their homes.
And I don’t mean to be negative, here. 🙂 It’s just that this verse reminds me to be wise and not foolish, and what wisdom is in this case.
#3 Proverbs 31:13
“She . . . worketh willingly with her hands.” ~ Proverbs 31:13
The entire verse actually says, “She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands” but that is not the only way homemakers work with their hands. In fact, that’s not likely to be a part of life for most of us. However, we do work with our hands and I think we should be doing that willingly, not grudgingly!
#4 Titus 2:3-5
This is counsel regarding Christian women in general, but there’s instruction here for the role of homemaking as well as other parts of life. No woman can follow this and spend their life griping because that have to do household chores.
“The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; that they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed.” ~ Titus 2: 3-5.
#5 James 1:5
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. ~ James 1:5
What homemaker doesn’t sometimes lack wisdom in dealing with homemaking issues?
And, if you come to the conclusion that you’re more like that foolish woman in Proverbs 14, never fear. James 1:5 says that’s fixable!
#6 Ecclesiastes 9:20
Good counsel for anyone in any situation, but good for a homemaker to remember: “Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest.” Ecclesiastes 9:10
If it matters, do it! Now!
PS: No, you can’t do everything. There’s probably a Bible verse somewhere for that principle too!
#7 Colossians 3:23-24
“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24
This instruction was originally given to servants, that is, bond servants, also known as slaves, which you, as a homemaker, are not. The instruction can be helpful for any type of servant or employee. I think it’s also good advice for anyone who is doing anything for anybody. That would include homemakers for sure!
